For a throwback, The Wolf Manis a classic. Scott McCall is a lacrosse-playing high school student who gets bitten by an Alpha werewolf while out on a misadventure with his best friend, Stiles, right at the series premiere. Because he did something of honor and with his greatest strength, his status as a true Alpha seemed to return briefly before Derek's honorary death. Either people are being preyed on by werewolves, like in the Stephen King movie Silver Bullets, or people are shocked to become werewolves themselves, like in Ginger Snapsand The Wolfman. Derek originally became an alpha after killing his uncle Peter, but during the Teen Wolf Movie ending, he becomes a 'True Alpha,' the rarest werewolf type. Keda is also attacked by a bobcat, in which Alpha steps in to help, where he is injured with blood shown, making Alpha fall down later in the movie and unable to keep going. No matter the genre, these movies share the same sense of dread. Though the wolf does get stabbed by the main character (Keda) when Alpha first attacks, Keda takes pity and lets the wolf rest. So, we played around with it and were hopeful but couldn’t fully commit to adding it to our workflow. When we first started looking at Zeplin a year ago, it was still in beta with a very minimal set of features. This streamlined and automated process makes life so much easier for everyone involved. And if you tweak a design, it’s no problem - export again, and all the specs are automatically updated. You can invite team members to your project so they can leave comments and get all the information they need when they need it. It even exports all the creative assets at just the right sizes for the target devices. Using the Zeplin plugin for Sketch to export an artboard automatically generates an interactive design specification document, guidelines, and assets. Most importantly, Zeplin takes my design revisions and automatically updates the specification docs, so I spend less time administering and more time designing. Zeplin is becoming a top UI design tool that encourages a seamless and iterative collaboration between developers and designers. And it’s these details that can turn a mundane app into a delightful experience. But there’s a more important cost than my boredom: Every minute I spend on revising documentation is a minute lost that I could be spending really nailing the visuals, experience, and interactions. Updating these specs is incredibly monotonous - certainly not what I signed up for when I went into the “creative” app design profession. So, painfully, we’ve burned a lot of time manually updating these docs. This means each minor revision in UI or UX by our design team needs to be reflected in our documentation so that our engineers always have the latest. These docs help keep our teams completely aligned. We must respond quickly to feedback about our designs as it flows from all directions during our agile process - from clients, product managers, and engineers themselves. In an agency environment like ours, we often work in compressed timeframes and manage multiple projects simultaneously. These specification documents are crucial - it’s the sacred source from which our iOS developers and Android developers take our designs and bring them to life. I'm all set to work in the UK without needing any visa sponsorship.I’ve lost not just hours but days tediously updating design documentation over the course of some app development projects. □ I'm Tawfik Manham, a product designer with 8 years of experience. My key takeaway from this session: "Survival in this evolving landscape belongs to those who can thrive in uncertainty." Invest more time in the second iteration to make it better." We also heard from Joe Blair, an expert in ed-tech, who shared a valuable piece of advice: "Your initial version should be so basic that you feel a bit embarrassed by it. The event was at BrainStation and led by Asomi. The answers were surprising! 40+ said it's good, 20+ weren't sure, and 4 said it's bad. Apple didn't have it either."Īs a designer, I've collaborated with Product Owners and couldn't help but wonder about their perspective.Īsomi Ithia led the show, and we had about 100 people there, all excited to talk about the future of product management.Īsomi started with a fun question: Is the future of Product Managers GOOD, UNCERTAIN, or BAD? Actually, we got rid of the classic product management function. Airbnb Founder Brian Chesky once said, "The designers are equal to the product managers. Kenshiro, the lead protagonist of the anime and a martial arts guru, could approach the opponent, say out the catchphrase and weaken the opponent by attacking his pressure points upon which his body would explode from inside. The first ever use of the phrase was during the premiere of the Fast of the North Star anime series in 1983. If you want a quick overview, check out this hilarious mashup of the Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru meme in action:Īvid followers of Japanese animes know this catchphrase has been around for a long time. That’s why the memes you’ve been encountering reaction arguments and image boards features Kenshiro pointing at the viewer and saying the famous catchphrase. It is a Japanese reaction or phrase meaning, “You’re Already Dead.” The phrase is a derivative of the anime series named the Fist of the North Star (Hokuto Shinken) which features Kenshiro as the main protagonist. You’ve probably seen this phrase on a meme on social media, but you’re not sure of what it means. The catchphrase is often joined by a picture of the lead character Kenshiro pointing at the viewer, which has received usage as a reaction image in disputes on image boards and discussion forums ( Source). “You Are Already Dead” (Japanese: お前はもう死んでいる Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru) is an expression from the manga and anime series Fist of the North Star (Japanese: 北斗の拳 Hokuto no Ken). (Although we do have redirect links in the section above to each of the relevant pages on the Mac App Store.) However, when Apple introduced Mojave the Mac App Store changed, and these installers can no longer be searched for or found in the purchased section of the store. Prior to macOS Mojave’s arrival in 2018, the installers for the older macOS versions could be searched for or found via the Purchased tab (not that anyone has had to pay for a Mac OS X update for years). How easy they are to find will be determined by the version of macOS running on that Mac. If you are running an older version of macOS – or someone you know is – you should be able to easily find older versions of macOS and even Mac OS X in the Mac App Store. The older macOS might not support certain components in that Mac, for example. Usually, when Apple introduces a new Mac it will not be able to run the version of macOS that shipped before the one installed on that Mac. You may also encounter issues if you are trying to download an older version of macOS that your Mac cannot support. In that case, we suggest you try to download the installer via that link using an older Mac. This is an issue we are aware of that others have encountered, although we haven’t. However, if you are still finding that the link isn’t working you could try the alternative methods below.Īnother issue is if the link takes you to the correct page in the Mac App Store, but you see an Update not found error message when you try to download it. We’ve said above that in our experience usually the reason the above links don’t work is if you are browsing in something other than Safari, or if you have already got the Mac App Store open. If the Mac App Store links above aren’t working While the above versions of macOS will work with newer Intel-based Macs, the following versions are specifically made for Macs with Intel chips. How to download an older version of macOS for an Intel Mac Follow the instructions in the Monterey section above.Follow the Mac App Store link using Safari to open the Big Sur page. You should be able to find the “Install macOS Monterey” app in your Applications folder, which you can use to to downgrade and install an older version of macOS.If you do, the installer will automatically be deleted (plus it won’t install if you are already running Ventura). Once the installer has downloaded do not click “Install”.It might look like an update rather than the full version, but you’ll see from the size of the download (around 6GB) that this is the complete installer for Monterey. Eventually a message “Are you sure you want to download macOS Monterey” will appear. Software Update will open with the words “Finding Update”.Follow the Mac App Store link through Safari to open the Mac App Store on the Monterey page.Follow these steps to download macOS Monterey (or other versions of macOS below) from the Mac App Store: Apple only replaced Monterey with macOS 13 Ventura in October 2022, but you can still download the installer for Monterey from the Mac App Store. They include the release of new recordings, the formation of ragtime societies and clubs, oral history projects, various publications, and live stage and television performances. The popularity of ragtime began to wane by the first decade of the 20th century, but there have been various revival efforts since the 1940s. As leader of the all-Black 369th Infantry “Hellfighters” Band, he began ragging the melodies and applying instrumental techniques that varied the timbre (as in “Memphis Blues,” 1919). James Reese Europe also introduced the ragging style and a new sound to US military bands. Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” was widely performed by pianists and instrumental ensembles and led to ragtime as a standard in the repertoire of many society bands, such as Clef Club Orchestra. The success of his “Maple Leaf Rag” (1899) and others that followed placed Joplin squarely in the American mainstream as a ragtime composer. Scott Joplin, dubbed “The King of Ragtime Writers” by his contemporaries, is the best-known composer of ragtime. Tom Turpin’s “Harlem Rag” (1897) is the first ragtime song published by an African American. Many songs commercially marketed under the ragtime label were not of this tradition. The broader society became acquainted with ragtime only after it appeared in print form and publishers targeted the white middle-class and upper-class piano players as its consumers. It has its origins in the saloon bars and dance halls of African-American. Printed versions of ragtime simplified the improvisatory quality of the original style, which changed the organic character of the tradition. Ragtime developed as a popular musical style at the end of the 19th Century. Beginning in 1897, ragtime became available in a written tradition when African American ragtime players and their white counterparts began transcribing and writing original rags to be published and sold as sheet music. Itinerant African American musicians developed ragtime as a playing style of music spontaneously created while performing in brothels, saloons, bars, and other venues where they played after the Civil War. On the safety gadget front 2013 brings collision and blind spot warning systems from the Cadillac XTS. If you opt for nav software, destination entry is quick and the map software uses high-resolution maps with satellite traffic info. 2013 brings improved voice commands for your USB/iDevice allowing you to command your tunes at the press of a button, and unlike Toyota’s similar system, MyLink doesn’t have a problem with large music libraries. Unlike MyFord Touch and Cadillac’s CUE, the Chevy is virtually crash-free and always responsive. The graphics are slick, the display is easy to read and GM offers a touchscreen and a joystick/knob controller so you can use whatever comes naturally. GM’s mid-market entertainment operating system is one of my favorites. The Volt gets Chevy’s latest MyLink infotainment system with some slight tweaks for 2013. That’s before I comment that the Volt’s gauges are where they belong, in front of the driver… Sure the 7-inch LCD gauge cluster isn’t as snazzy as Land Rover’s 12-inch readout, but the Prius is stuck in a 1980s Chrysler LeBaron electrofluorescent-time-warp and one 7-inch readout trumps Ford’s twin-4.2″ display setup in my mind. When it comes to infotainment and trendy gadgets, the Volt scores big. The lack of a 5th seat seems to be a common reason given for choosing something else over the Volt, but the battery had to go somewhere so the Volt trades more cargo room with the seats in place vs the C-MAX Energi for that 5th seat. New for 2013 is some brown love, a color combo that brings the Volt’s interior feel up a substantial notch without actually improving the quality of the plastics.įront seat comfort slots between the Ford and Toyota alternatives up front, in the rear there is less headroom and legroom than in the Prius or C-MAX. Gone are the funky orange door panels with “circuit board” patterns replaced by a dark silver plastic panels on the black interior. Part of this is because 2013 brings more sedate and mainstream choices to the Volt’s interior. Style is subjective, but I would rank the Volt between the Prius’ funky interior design and the C-MAX’s mainstream interior. Hard plastics included, the Volt is a nicer place to spend your time than a Prius but Ford’s C-MAX takes top position in terms of interior parts feel. With a nominal 16.5kWh capacity, this battery is about four times larger than the Prius Plug-In’s pack and nearly twice the size of Ford’s Energi. Motors and batteries aren’t cheap and the Volt has 288 batteries jammed into a “T” shaped battery pack that runs the length of the car andacross the back of the car behind the rear seats. That is true for the Prius, Insight and the Volt. Hybrids have long suffered cheaper looking and feeling interiors than their “normal” counterparts. There are also subtle tweaks to the rear tail lamp modules this year. The Volt/Prius/Insight reminds me of this tactic and parked next to one another in the dark you’d be hard pressed to differentiate them by silhouette.įor its first refresh since it launched as a 2011, GM decided to ditch the somewhat awkward black roof and black painted liftgate opting for a more harmonious body-matching hue. Why? Because they all have the same shape and teams paint / add decals to “brand” their car. Since the shape is dictated by wind-tunnel testing (just like the Prius and Insight) the Volt reminds me of NASCAR cars. The Volt’s styling isn’t for everyone, but I find the overall style aggressive and attractive. Like the Japanese hybrids, the Volt is a liftback design which is more practical than your typical trunk lid for carrying large items from the home improvement store. There is also a segment of the population that says, “that’s great but I want a hybrid.” Guess what? The Volt is a hybrid.Īerodynamics dictate the shape of modern high-efficiency cars, and as a result, the Volt has a profile very similar to the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius. By calling the Volt an “Electric Vehicle (EV) with a range extender,” a huge segment of the population can’t get past “Electric” and immediately cross the Volt off their list. After a week of strange questions and bipolar reactions to GM’s plug-in hybrid, I came to a conclusion. The Chevrolet Volt may be the most maligned and least understood car on the market. |
